What a sad, sad photo. One year ago today, we lost this battle in California. And now we’ve lost again on the opposite coast. While we’ll never stop fighting for true equality, sometimes it can be hard to see the forest for the trees…
Front cover, Bangor (Maine) Daily News, Wednesday, November 4, 2009.
There are people who celebrate keeping people who love each other apart. There are people who make it their pathetic life’s work to keep two people who belong together from not being together. There are people who revel in not letting others be genuinely happy, and making them feel like second-rate citizens in their own country, for the want of “preserving tradition.”
These people are assholes.
Not only are these people assholes, but they’re losers as well. Maybe not last night. Maybe not next year. But those numbers are tightening.
…
So let em cheer. Today we live in a world where a lot of people who love each other can’t get married. In about 20 years, these people will live in a world where those same people WILL be able to get married, and they will have to shamefully explain to their grandkids why they were on the front page of the newspaper celebrating an ignorant and hopeless cause.
So who are really the winners here?
