This is political correctness run amok.

Rep. John Shadegg (R-AZ), commenting on holding the 9/11 trials in New York City

WTF?!? Since when are upholding the rule of law and trying criminals according to the principles of our Constitution considered being “politically correct”?

It seems like today’s Republican party is full of scaredy cats… people who exclaim how tough America is (and by extension, how tough they are), but are freaked out when it comes time to show some real backbone.

As Josh Marshall points out, “since when is it something we advertise or say proudly that we’re going to change our behavior because we fear terrorists will attack us if we don’t?”

Maybe these people don’t understand the point of terrorism, but killing people is only of secondary concern to terrorists—the main goal is to force us to live in terror. And over the last decade al Qaeda has achieved exactly that… everyday we’re reminded about how we should be scared of terrorists, and everyday we give up our rights and compromise out beliefs in order to appease them. (Which is ironic, considering a constant political attack over the past few years has been “appeasement”, but usually for Bizarro reasons.)

Enough is enough. Isn’t it time we give up on the fake machismo, and start being confident and unafraid for real?
